Me, a dork, what?

edit: check out the last pic, can you find the difference?

So, for those of you who don't know, I went into the city today to hang out with some other Anglican bloggers (and do some research for my OI design project).

It was a great time, starting with tea and wine, followed by Solemn Evensong at the General Seminary chapel and dinner. I was fortunate to sit next to Tobias Haller, who an incredibly insightful and intelligent human being, and Grandmere Mimi, who is just as amusing and interesting as her blog appears. It was wonderful to finally meet some of the other crazy people who grace the pages of OCICBW and contribute on their own to the wonderful Anglican Blogosphere, especially (but by no means limited to) Eileen, Pseudopiskie, Dennis, Doug, PJ and Johnie and everyone else whom I'm forgetting because its late, as well as to FINALLY speak to Elizabeth Kaeton.

Anyhow, here are the unPhotoShopped pics... improvements likely to follow.

MadPriest... or as close as we could get (although much better behaved)... at least he's wearing a name tag!
Dennis reading the official welcome note from the great Mad Man himself.

Pseudopiskie's fabulous shirt which read "neither death nor life nor angels nor Bishops nor the Anglican Communion can seperate us from the love of Christ."
Hanging around in Matthew's Lounge.
At the restaurant...table 1
Table 2 (minus me)
and table 3 (after +Elizabeth got there but after Fr. Jake left)
The other side of table 3

Chillin at the restaurant

+Elizabeth and Grandmere Mimi, a wonderful duo! (which should thoroughly scare MP)

The bloody lot of us (minus +Elizabeth and ReverendBoy). If you want a roster let me know, but MP, you should be able to figure it out... there's a bit of a trick)!

Can you find a difference in this picture and the one above it... it isn't that well done, but I'm still working on it.

This was a great night!

what a fun night! I think that you win the prize for getting these up faster than anyone else.

By the way, I never had a chance to mention that your Mad Priest poster was fabulous!

I'd love a roster, please! I couldn't come; I'm on the West Coast.

Thanks! My profile has my e-mail address.

It was great to meet you!

And you do totally win the prize for getting up the pics on blog the quickest!

That was much fun, and I look forward to doing it again in the future!

Not a dork at all! It was great to meet you, and thanks for putting the pictures up so fast!

Do you think the restaurant staff has recovered yet? :)

Let's try that again....

Thanks so much for posting these great pictures.

It was delightful to meet such a funny, smart, and utterly charming group of people. What a fine evening!!

PS. Also special thanks to whoever retrieved my glasses. You can contact me through the email in my Profile.

Allie,

Thanks for getting these pictures up. I've already raided the ones Doug sent.

The evening was entirely more fun than was absolutely necessary.

I suspect those who have been sitting in the far right hand side of the church will soon file a formal complaint.

And well they should.

If they don't, I'm positive the restaurant staff will.

Thanks again to all of you for a grand evening.

Wow, it looks like great fun! Next year the West Coast, eh?

Oh, now I feel really sad to have missed out on all the EpiscoFun! Hope there were enough dog biscuits for all!

Woof!

So, I was filming as Dennis was reading the letter from MP and I quite literally just discovered that my camera records sound, so I hope to have that posted later today!

Thanks for sharing the pics. For those of us on the other side of the continent it's a treat. Wish I'd been there.

Ho! There I am in that last pic. Thanks, Sweetie. The Spirit of Inclusion works through Photoshop!

Grrrl, the things we didn't talk about: old school Sci-Fi and Medieval History! Are you doing anything for Hanukah? GTS Evensong is a little much this soon after.

Lovely coverage: you deserve an A!

Allie said...

JohnieB, OMG, someone else who has heard of the movie Cradle Will Rock! So far I know of maybe 4 others who have seen it!

YAY for SF and Medeival History... after I got back I started looking at people's profiles and noticed so much that could have been talked about (not that most wasn't already)... like the fact that PJ is an MFA in Creative Writing as are about 20% of my total friends.
As for Chanukah, I'm unsure, it depends what happens. A few friends of mine usually throw a party, and I'll be there, but since I've been to college (and a few relatives died) there hasn't really been anything like a menorah or going to services.

Allie and JohnnieB --

As yet another Jewish-Christian hybrid, I celebrate all holidays with great joy and love.

Let's do have a Chanukah celebration.

I'm only Jewish by adoption, but I got a Hanukah invite from that part of the family: no details yet; Aunt Kay hasn't said which or what, or maybe the children are in charge.

johnieb said...

Oh, as to Cradle Will Rock, I'm a historian of the New Deal/ Cold War and a raving Red (NOT in the current Red/ Blue sense!), so whatdidcha expect?

Dennis said...

how much do you want to not post that video?

Allie said...

Dennis,
Fine, I won't post it...
Do you want a copy of it? I haven't uploaded it yet.

Allie said...

Episcochanukah party anyone?

Episcochanukah party anyone?

You're on! :D

Oh wow, I'm up late again...

Thanks so much for the photos (though BTW, Table 2 was minus you and me -- me at the right hand of Tobias!). And the poster of MP - brilliant.

What a research project!

Wish I had more time to talk to you.

No, I doubt the restaurant staff will ever recover.

NEVER...... was KJ here to cause the typos?

Allie, you were the first with the most. I loved meeting you the other night. It was truly a fantastic evening. I loved seeing everyone "in the flesh" as they say.

The poster was a masterpiece.

Love to all. I'll be home blogging tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm paying by the minute now. Ouch!

Dennis said...

you can post it - I was only kidding.

I came back hoping to see it up.

Allie said...

Okay, I'll post it after my night class

JohnieB and Allie,

I'll second a "woo hoo!" for SF and history. Dang it, I'm feeling more blue by the day thinking about missing this little soirée... Y'all are obviously an even more interesting bunch than I imagined :)

Allie said...

You missed a great time, but itm ight have been worth it to save the air fare.

I wanted to be a Medievalist as an Undergrad, then realized I no longer had time to learn enough Latin plus Medieval Arabic. As a grad student, I switched to U S Foreign Relations (Cold War) and taught Intro to U S (any period) for a few years.

What, exactly, is "Old School" SF? Astounding in the Forties? Galaxy under Gold? Johanna Russ? (!)

Allie said...

Well, in terms of Old School SF, I was really thinking anything pre-1980, which for my tastes goes from there back to the late 1800s with a glut in the 1960s (although I'm an admitted Trekkie and Star Wars fan).
I haven't actually read Johanna Russ although I've been wanting to read The Female Man for a while.

Allie said...

you?

susan s. said...

Okay, Allie. I have to know in the picture of table 1, who is that lovely blond hottie on the left? Yes the boychick! That one!

Allie said...

That is Dennis's partner who's name embarressingly escapes me

susan s. said...

Thanks, Allie. His name is David. I read about him at Mimi's. I've decided that all the Davids must be hotties! ;-)

Sorry it took me so long to post, but has been a hectic week & I did not have a google account...but I do now :>)

"Old School" SF ? To me, that's roughly the 1940's-60's (and maybe early 70's). Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, H. Beam Piper, Cliff Simak, Jack Williamson, Poul Anderson, Larry Niven, Hal Clement, and Roger Zelazny are some of my favs from that time period.

Want some current authors who write like this ? You can start with John Scalzi and Charles Stross :)
